Time

Savor the moment.....
Six years ago today my youngest grandson was born. I was taking care of the older one at the time and he kept questioning "Is my brother here yet? Is my brother here yet? Is my brother here yet?"...he was a bit past three. Today, naturally, they poke and push each other like animals but life without either is unimaginable. Six!!!
Harder to believe, the boys' father, my son, turns 37 tomorrow. And me not quite 40! HAHAHAHA!
Wasn't it yesterday when he asked for a "Manilow cookie"...Milano. And wanted to learn how to "lawn the mow". Was it yesterday when he fell out of a tree, landed on his head and broke his wrist? How excited it was when he became a US ranked tennis player? When he bought a building for his now successful business? When he became a father?
Yesterday? No, but locked in my memory bank forever.
Just came in from a birthday breakfast with them and the little guy hugging me and saying "You're the best"...and the biggest one saying to him "I told you"...
Happy Birthday Boys!!!

Sometimes you have to break your word....

I have always prided myself on keeping my word. If I make a commitment, it's done. Sometimes I may have regretted it, but it is rarely broken until today.....arghhhh!
I had paid for and entered a school craft fair for 3 hours tonite. The entry was minimal. DH couldn't come with me as he is committed elsewhere. But for 3 hours (5-8) at an active school...why not? The school is 40 minutes away, on back roads but doable until the forecast and my anxiety kicked into gear.
It started raining last night and is a cold, foggy rain today. It is expected to last until the early hours of tomorrow morning. Anxiety.
As I've gotten older, driving at night is not enjoyable. Factor in: rain, flash flood warnings, thunder, back roads and awful drivers? Not a good scenario. I'd get there okay as it will still be light but will buyers venture out on a miserable night? Will I be anxious the whole time worrying about getting home? Will I get soaked loading the car at the end?
No, yes and yes.
Two craft fair friends who are local said to blow it off. DH wanted me to, as well
So I have backed out.
Business has been slow and who knows what sales or contacts would have been made there. But most important is my safety & my sanity, right? So why am I still trying to convince myself that I made the right decision? Because I broke my word and that doesn't sit well.
And anyway, I'd like to make it unscathed to tomorrow....my birthday!
Here's #4 in my patchwork clock series, a taste of Europe. If anyone wants to purchase and cheer me up, it's here!

UPDATE on this post...at 4:00 the weather cleared and I was besides myself with frustration but it was done. At 6PM, light rain. 7:00 brought steady rain. At 8PM, when the show would be ending, the world was coming to an end! Heavy rain, thunder and tornado warnings right around the school. I would have been driving home in it with soggy merchandise!
So bottom line...I made the right decision. I haven't heard yet if the fair was a hit but how could it have been? Who would venture out into that mess?!
And I had a great birthday...thanks all for the wonderful wishes.♥

August

When I was a teacher, August was a down month since the start of school was creeping up fast. In addition it was a hard month because of the weather...hot-hot-hot! No special days or events take place in August. So it was with great joy a 'holiday' was added to my August when my son was born. And then many years later, his son was born in August as well. So even though I no longer worry about the start of school and the heat is still unbearable, it's a special time with the birthdays of 2 very special males. We all had dinner out last night and all was great until B attacked the chocolate birthday cake...never has such a small piece of cake caused such a great mess on such a small person and those sitting nearby. I literally threw everything I was wearing into the wash as soon as I got home! The picture is dark as the restaurant was dark but as I snapped he was saying "Wash me,please!" Big brother is behind him, neat as a pin!

Happy Birthday J and B! Hugs and kisses, too!

Time Passes

Some things don't change and that's okay. At Thanksgiving, one of the things I was grateful for was never being in the headlines or on the news. Neither me nor anyone close to me. I got a strange look when I said it and then it sunk in. There is so much awful news and I have never been a part of anything monumentally awful like a natural disaster or war....or that positive either, like winning the lottery. That has been true my whole life. Okay, why am I going on like this, after turkey day, no less? Well, my birthday is Saturday and according to the numbers, a BIG one, so I have become a bit pensive, I guess. I really am so happy with my life today, where it is and what I am surrounded with. I know it sounds funny but I was always young until now! With a birthday in December and skipping a year in school, I was always the youngest around. I was 16 and a freshman in college. Well, now I'm not so young BUT the alternative isn't a choice. So what will change Saturday? I'll still cherish my wrinkles-I've earned them. I may stop obsessing about the few extra pounds-the pasta was worth it. I'll continue to take time to smell the roses and I already wear purple! Buttons will still be fun to me. I always remind my family that I love them and keep in close contact with those not nearby. So what will be different? Not much and that's okay by me! Just a bigger number...at least it's not my jeans size!

Happy almost Birthday to me!!!

Birthdays

Two years ago today Braden was born. Thirty three years ago tomorrow, his father was born. So thirty-three plus two makes me.....thirty-five? Nah...didn't like my life when I was thirty five. Love it now but boy those numbers are getting high. I know, I know, age is just a number, blah, blah, blah. I do think etsy is keeping me younger. It's an odd experience to develop a relationship over the internet, through etsy, with some very wonderful people who may be younger than your child! Does it matter? I somehow have an insecurity that when they find out I am possibly older than their parents, they won't like me. Dumb? Yeah, but it's there.
